What is BRELA Online Registration System (BRELA ORS)?

BRELA Online Registration System (ORS) is a system operated by the Business Registrations and Licensing Agency (BRELA) located at the junction of Shaaban Robert Street and Sokoine Drive in Dar es Salaam.

  • You can register Industrial License. You can change particulars of existing Industrial License. You can file annual progress report. You can cancel an existing Industrial License.
  • You can register service or trade mark. You can file mark related documents.
  • You can register patent. You can file patent or utility model related documents.
  • You can apply and extract short or detailed information about business name, company, industrial license, mark or patent. You can also order Mark index review.

Users can pay annual maintenance fees, register or reserve business names, modify company details, file annual returns and progress reports, and obtain comprehensive information about business entities and intellectual property rights, including patents and trademarks, through the BRELA ORS. The system’s objectives are to guarantee legal compliance, increase efficiency, and streamline the registration procedures.

To register a business name in Tanzania through the Business Registrations and Licensing Agency (BRELA), individuals or sole proprietors need to follow a specific process outlined by the Business Names (Registration) Act (Cap. 213). To apply for e-services at BRELA you have to be a registered user. If you do not have a user name and password, please register as user first and activate your account, click „Create ORS account“. If you have a user name and password, click „E-services for registered users“ and login.
To apply for any of e-services (except new registration) you need to know an identifier of the object. Here you can search for a Registration number of a business name or Incorporation /Compliance numuber of a company, address and current status free of charge. Please note that only business names and companies that have registered or updated information via ORS will be presented in searh result, click „Free search“.

  • directly at CRDB or NMB

Step 1: Obtain the Necessary Forms

  • Obtain an Application Form for registering a business name (Form 3) and ensure it is duly filled.
  • Additionally, you will need an Application Form for registering a business name (Form 2).

Step 2: Provide Required Information

  • Fill out the forms with accurate information about your business.
  • Include your National Identification Authority (NIDA) ID number on the forms.

Step 3: Visit the BRELA Office

  • Head to the BRELA office located at Plot No 23, Block No 20, Shaaban Robert/Sokoine Drive Junction, P.O. Box 9393, Dar es Salaam.
  • If you are in Zanzibar, visit P.O. Box 260, Sheria House Building, Mazizini.

Step 4: Submission and Attention at Counter

  • Submit your filled forms at the BRELA office counter.
  • Your application will be processed within a maximum of 20 minutes.

Step 5: Compliance with Business Names Act

  • Ensure that your business name complies with the regulations set forth in the Business Names (Registration) Act (Cap. 213), particularly articles S.6 and S.7.
